Ardrossan Winton Rovers 1
Muirkirk 1

Stagecoach Ayrshire District League

WINTON should have been one up as early as the first minute of the game when Scott Clelland passed up a gret chance to tap home but his effort was too weak.

Ex-Saltcoats man Gordon Smith almost put Kirk up a minute after this when he latched on to a ball at the back post but Stuart Robertson saved his effort.

Winton had a couple of good efforts cleared by Muirkirk in some desperation - just clearing their lines at times.

The game settled down into a rather scrappy affair with Kirk's Smith on 18 minutes forcing a save from Robertson again at the back post.

In 38 minutes Winton carved open the opponents defence with a good move down the right involving Weir and Clelland with Cuthbert getting on the end of the lay off to balst high and wide from 18 yards.

A speculative chip from Graeme Muir almost caught out Moy but the ball just sailed over and clipped the net behind the bar causing a few fans to get a bit excited.

Wintons best chance to get a half time lead came just before the whistle and Len Cuthbert's cross was met by the head of Scott Weir to force a full length diving save from Moy.

A Hoots Harvey corner two minutes into the secondsaw Scott Weir head just past the post. Muirkirk's Gordon Smith had a chance on 55 minutes when he fired a good shot in that Robertson saved well.

On 67 minutes Winton played some decent football allowing Connelly and Weir to set up Muir but he shot over as he leant back from 15 yards. Muirkirk went ahead in 70 minutes.

A corner on the left was met by a ruck of players but McEwan rose the highest to send a header back across goaland although McMillan cleared the ball the referee was on hand to adjudge the ball had crossed the line and the goal was given.

Winton then upped the pace and on 73 minutes Hoots Harvey forced another good save from Moy who was having a fairly good day at the office, dealing with almost everything Winton could throw at times with ease.

Smith and McGowan combined well on 77 minutes, to force a corner on the left after Robertson blocked a low shot with his legs at the back post.

From the corner a partially cleared ball was controlled by K Barclay and his turn and shot from 18 yards was turned over by Robertson.

Winton did equalise on 83 minutes when Ross Halliday directed a great header into the far corner of the net.

In the very last minute Winton almost snatched the three points when a deep cross from the right was met with an overhead kick from Douglas Johnstone and his effort cannoned off the bar and bounced agonisingly away from goal.
