WINTON SLUMP

Ardrossan Winton Rovers 2
Craigmark Burntonians 3

Stagecoach Ayrshire District League

LEADERS Winton Rovers slumped to their first league defeat of the campaign after an inept display in the second half, allowing the young Craigmark side to come back at them with some neat football

The opening period was pretty even and it took an offside goal on the stroke of the interval to Winton to separate the teams.

In a lively opening spell both sides created chances but never really troubled the opposing goalkeeper.

Craigmark opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a peach of a goal, a quick passing movement took them well into the Winton half. A low ball was cut inside from the right, Stephen Kerr stepped over the ball and Steven Holland hit a glorious shot into the net from 25 yards.

Winton should have equalised right away but Andrew Black saved well from a Scott Weir shot.

The equaliser came in 23 minutes, Andrew Black was caught off his line and although he got his hand to the lob from Graeme Muir it fell kindly for Scott Weir who made no mistake from close range.

With half an hour gone Muir had a chance to put the home side ahead but he shot wide.

The next chance fell to Steven Galbraith and his low shot had Stuart Robertson scrambling across his line but the ball went wide.

Hoots Harvey was the next to have a go for Winton but his shot flew across the face of the goal and out for a throw in.

On the stroke of half time the home side did take the lead with a goal which was offside, with not one but three players in the clear. Playing to the whistle, Scott Crawford, rightly ran on and netted easily.

Winton should have gone further ahead two minutes after the break, but Scott Clelland failed to take advantage of a Steven MacKay mistake, shooting wide.

Craigmark replaced Steven Galbraith with Andrew Rae and it paid dividends 10 minutes from the end when he beat the helpless Robertson with a low shot.

Steven Shankland put Mark ahead with five minutes left, picking up a low pass and outstripping the defence before beating goalkeeper Stuart Robertson with a low shot.

Douglas Johnstone had a chance to salvage a point for Winton but his free header flew over the bar with Black beaten.
