SATURDAY 23RD OCTOBER 2004

Craigmark Burntonians 1
Ardrossan Winton Rovers 3

Stagecoach Ayrshire District League

WINTON got back on the rails with an excellent away win at third placed Craigmark.

The game was most notable for the first goals for the visiting club for recent signings Scott Weir and Douglas Johnstone.

Indeed Weir should have opened his account in 48 seconds when a long punt from Stuart Robertson in the Winton goal was flicked on by Hoots Harvey and weir ran through but Craigmark keeper Steven Douglas did really well to block his effort.

Winton were playing down the slope at Station Park in the opening period and threatened to swamp Craigmark with their pressure in the first 10 minutes of the game.

The pressure paid off in 12 minutes when following a corner there was some head tennis in the box and Harvey saw a shot blocked before the loose ball came to Johnstone at the back post and he shot home in off the post for a well deserved early lead for Winton.

In 23 minutes Winton were caught out by a long high ball over the top that allowed Ross Fraser to beat Johnstone for pace and then hit an early shot low past Robertson in the Winton goal.

Winton rallied and Harvey saw a good run and shot parried by Douglas. Winton tried to force the game at Craigmark and Graeme Muir saw an effort from a corner kneed off the line then Mark McCann showed some wonderful skills dancing past two players in the box before cutting the ball back to Johnstone, but his effort was miscued.

Fraser was the most dangerous attacker for Craigmark and he didi well on 40 minutes to strike a good effort but Robertson saved.

In contrast to the start of the first half it was Craigmark who came out and posed for all questions for the Winton defence with some strong running and good play but no clear cut sveswere forced out of Robertson.

In 57 minutes Winton went 2-1 ahead when Lenny Cuthbert sent a ball into the strong running Weir and his effort was blocked again by Douglas but the loose ball fell to Harvey and he lashed the ball home against his old club.

Winton went 3-1 ahead in 63 minutes after Cuthbert broke three tackles on the left and Weir chipped the advancing keeper.
