WINTON BATTLERS MAKE A POINT

Largs Thistle 0
Ardrossan Winton Rovers 0

Stagecoach Ayrshire District League

WINTON earned a hard fought point in this top of the table clash at Barrfields.

The Ardrossan side had been idle for the past few weeks but showed little sign of rusitness when a Mark McCann corner on five minutes was fisted out from underneath the bar for another corner.

A McCann free kick found the head of Clelland at the back post but his header was high and wide of the mark.

New signing Tommy Sloan was sent through by Danny Connelly but his effort from the angle went past the post on 18 minutes.

Largs then came more into the game and Graham and McLone put together a good one two and Graham's cross was sent over the bar from less than six yards our.

Largs continued to dominate going into the half time break and a long range drive by Goldie was touched past the post by Stuart Robertson in the Winton goal.

Winton had their best chance of the half on 39 minutes when another McCann corner was met by the head of Scott Crawford and his effort was touched over the bar by McWilliams in the Largs goal.

Armour met a free kick after the restart but his effort went straight into the arms of Robertson. On 62 minutes Largs created a gret chance but two players went for the cross and missed it and the ball was cleared.

Following this pressure a free kick by Young clipped the top of the bar as Largs kept pressing.

The best chance of the game fell to Armour in 73 minutes when he beat the Winton offside trap and was clear on goal, but Stuart Robertson pulled off a fantastic save to deny him.

Largs kept the pressure up but Winton were coping with most of the possession that Largs had.

Largs did get the ball in the net on 79 minutes but were caught offside. Paul Templeton did well following a Graeme Muir knockdown but his effort flew high over the bar.

Largs put on player manager Stephen Quigg to try and secure the win with a few minutes left but it was fellow veteran Tommy Turner who caused the main talking point in this game when he appeared to be fouled inside the box deep into injury time but the referee decided that there was no infringement and Winton held on for a more than useful point.
