Rockware Glass League Cup
BATTLING Winton got their first three points of the cup campaign after a hard fought scrap against determined 10-man Dalry at Winton Park on Saturday.
Dalry had a chance in four minutes when Alan Muir crossed to Willie Hutson to shoot over the bar from 18 yards.
But six minutes later Scott Crawford saw his effort on goal punched off the goal line by Alan Muir of Dalry.
The referee had no hesitation in awarding the penalty kick and sending Muir off. Sean Quinn stepped up and scored with the spot kick.
Dalry decided not to lie down to this and took the game to Winton but Quinn was looking dangerous and had a shot on the turn that went just past a post in 15 minutes.
Ten minutes later Dalry came close when a Grant Cockerill shot was turned away for a corner by goalkeeper Stuart Robertson.
The game settled down but it became a midfield battle with chances few a far between.
Dalry got back into the game in 38 minutes when a diagonal cross from Wallace on the right was met by Willie Hutson who scored easily in at the near post.
Thistle went ahead just before half time when a ball through the inside right channel from McCoy was met by Derek Chalmers and he ran on and scored.
Winton got back into the game on 51 minutes when a throw in on the right was flicked on by Fraser to G Muir and he showed enough composure to stroke the ball home.
Dalry went ahead in bizarre circumstances in 55 minutes when Robertson went chasing for a ball on the left touchline to clear but proceeded to pass it straight to Dalry's Fraser Murray who promptly dispatched the ball into the net with the home number one scrambling.
On the hour Winton got the game back to three each when Muir got the ball in the right channel and scored with a low drive in to the far corner of the net.
Winton went 4-3 ahead in 64 minutes when some good work by Quinn on the left saw his angled cross being met by Alan Shanks and his clipped shot was too good for Asbury and Winton took the decisive lead.
Dalry applied some late pressure but Winton held out for their first win of the season.
