Winton made hard work for themselves in this league game at Darvel by conceding two late goals to make it a closer contest than the scoreline suggested.
Winton passed the ball well on the heavy surface, particularly in the first half. The visitors created some good chances but Daniel Moy in the Darvel goal was in good form and stopped most of their efforts.
Derek Frye's side were dangerous going down the right and on the half hour they opened their account when a driving run by Paddy Clelland saw him try to and force his way into the box where the effort was stopped by Moy but the loose ball broke to Billy Easton and from 25 yards out he placed his shot into the net.
Darvel then found themselves down to 10 men when John Hollis had too much to say to the referee and was dismissed.
The second half saw 10 man Darvel, as is often the case, regroup and make life difficult for Winton in the second half winning some important battles.
Graham Muir was unlucky to see his shot following a great move by the Rovers brilliantly saved by Moy but Winton got the breathing space on 70 minutes when following a move down the left Clelland got into the box and managed to force the ball beyond Moy.
Winton kept up the pressure and shortly after this got a third in spectacular fashion when Sean Quinn hit a left foot volley from a narrow angle into the roof of the net for a goal of the season contender.
And the visitors almost made it four when Quinn hit the post.
Darvel got what seemed to be a late consolation with four minutes remaining when McEwan headed home but just before the final whistle a speculative drive from former Winton player Tam Fraser saw the ball take a wicked deflection off Easton and end up in the net.
