Winton up for the Cup
Rovers face first cup showing in 12 years
UNDERDOGS Ardrossan Winton Rovers are positively relishing their first cup final appearance in 12 years next week after toppling higher league opponents Largs Thistle on Saturday in the North Ayrshire Cup semi-final.
Derek Frye's side, who defeated the Super Frist Division visitors 2-0 at Winton Park will play Irvine Meadow, Ardeer Thistle or Kilwinning Rangers in the final at Meadow Park next Wednesday, June 13 following a hugely impressive run which has seen them win six straight games, conceding a solitary goal in the process.
Now Winton say whichever side they play will underestimate them at their peril.
Secretary Tom Ferrie told Sportscene: "It's a great achievement to reach a final and if only we had produced our recent form earlier in the season we could well have been promoted."
"We look forward to the game and let's face it we will be underdogs even if we play Ardeer, as they finished higher than us in the league. Hopefully the fans will turn out in numbers and get right behind us."
"We have been playing well recently and while it will be difficult if we play as well as we can we must have a chance of victory."
"It will be a good ocassion to be involved in, especially for some of the younger players who won't have had the experience of playing in a final."
Winton will be without Billy Easton and Graham Muir who are both on holiday but otherwise have a full squad to choose from.
