Frye's Delight
Winton boss salutes his giant-killers
OVERJOYED Ardrossan Winton Rovers boss Derek Frye was full of praise for his fast developing young side after they took yet another major scalp on Saturday.
The Winton park outfit defeated Stagecoach Super League First Division promotion chasing Largs Thistle 2-0 at Barrfields Park in an Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup first round tie and now face last season's beaton finalists Dalry Thistle away from home in the next round.
Frye said: "It was a great result for us and we fully deserved it, as we dominated the game. There was no pressure on the lad and they produced a great team performance. Application was the key and the players also adjusted to the higher tempo of the match and raised their game against a higher league team. We look forward to the next tie at Dalry and we are capable of winning any game we play. We are improving every year. "
Next up are undefeated league leaders Girvan who visit Winton Park on Stagecoach Ayrshire District League business.
Frye said: "They are going very well and are favourites for promotion and the title but if we want to do anything we have to beat teams like Girvan and I am looking for another good performance. As long as the lads give 100 per cent, I will be happy and the aim is to finish as high up the league as we can. But I am making no predictions."
