Ardagh Glass League Cup
WINTON got their first three points in the Ardagh Cup section but it was far from a vintage performance from either side.
Derek Frye's hosts seized the initiative on six minutes when a good break from defence by Milliken saw him find Scott Adam who laid off to Stephen McAvoy but he shot wide. After 15 minutes Winton lived a bit dangerously when Shaun Allan forced a save from Stevie O'Neill and from the parry the ball was crossed again in from the right and this time O'Neill got enough on the ball to take it away from Jim "Tiger" McNally who was ready to pounce.
The opening goal came on 21 minutes when a corner on the right fell to Adam who hooked the ball past former Winton stopper Neil Greenwood. Dalry then rallied and took the game to their hosts and on 37 minutes it was all square when McNally got free on the right and cut the ball back to Steven Cripps who had the easiest of tasks to net from six yards.
Into the second half and Winton were not at the races as Dalry forced the game but despite their possession O'Neill only had to look lively on 50 minutes to punch an effort over the bar.
Despite starting the second half unconvincingly Rovers started playing slightly better from the hour mark and a melee in the box saw to ricochets blocked by a resolute Dalry defence.
Billy Easton got on the end of a good cross from Allan Weaver on 65 minutes but Greenwood held the effort.
Winton did go ahead on 67 minutes when a free kick on the right was floated in and while Easton looked to be fouled, David Wilson followed up and hit an unstoppable drive high into the net.
Winton were pressing and on 80 minutes Adam hit a low drive which on the skiddy surface Greenwood did well to hold.
Winton sealed the game when Allan Weaver picked the ball up on the right side and drove straight at the Dalry defence cutting them open and cut a nice low ball across the 6 yard box for Davie Wilson to get his second and Winton's third.
Dalry were looking for a consolation and O'Mally came closest on 88 minutes when put through but shot wide.
