Furious Frye
ANGRY Ardrossan Winton Rovers boss Derek Frye hit out at refereeing standards in the game after he had two players sent off in Saturday's 3-1 defeat away to Kello Rovers in the Stagecoach Ayrshire District League.
The manager was left fuming after Billy Gilmour and Graham Muir both saw red for two bookings while the Kello goalkeeper was not even booked for a challenge which led to the opening goal for Winton from the penalty spot and feels refereeing standards have dipped.
Frye told Sportscene: "I can't fault the players for either their effort or their commitment although they missed some chances and you have to take them if you want to win games. But Billy and Graham were both given their first bookings for what I felt were fair tackles, yet the Kello goalkeeper was not even booked for committing the foul that led to our penalty. I think some referees have part-time jobs as comedians. They like being in charge and having a whistle."
"FIFA officials are talking about five or six at a game. But we find it difficult sometimes to even get one referee."
The Winton Boss added: "It was a dissappointment result but their second goal was a wonder goal and by the time they scored their third we were down to nine men anyway."
Winton on Saturday host Whitletts Victoria and Frye is looking for a good reaction from the players. He said: "Hopefully this is just a temporary setback and we aim to bounce back with a victory at home to Whitletts on Saturday." The Rovers boss has no injury worries ahead of the game.
