Winton fancy a run in the Emirates Scottish Cup

AMBITIOUS Ardrossan Winton Rovers boss Derek Fyre is targetting a run in the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup after his table toppers chalked up their sixth successive win in the Stageoach Ayrshire District League to extend their lead at the top to five points.

Frye's troops defeated a stuffy Muirkirk side 4-2 at Winton Park to move five points clear of Maybole and now enjoy a welcome break from league duty as they head to the Kingdom of Fife to take on Steelend Victoria in the opening round of the Junior game's showpieve competition.

The Winton Park gaffer told Sportscene, "We are playing well and have made a good start but let's hope we have a good end to the season too. You have to be happy with six straight wins and a total of 25 goals for and five against, but we are still taking it very much a game at a time."

"The boys had some questions asked of them on Saturday but they answered them and showed great character, they deserve all the credit."

"Now we are really looking forward to the Scottish Cup tie at the weekend, it gives us a chance to get away from the league for a week and while the league is very much the priority it would be nice if we could be invovled in the Scottish until after Santa Claus comes down the chimney. I don't know a great deal about Steelend but I know they can score goals but have also let some in. At the end of the day I am more concerend about my players and I know if we play we will win, it's as simple as that. We are working very hard, camaraderie is excellent and the training sessions are going really well."

Frye has no injury worries to report ahead of the game.
