Ardrossan Winton Rovers

Priority is to get all the players fit

Objectives the same - to win promotion

WINTON chairman Dougie Rae reckons the team has the right formula for success this season after narrowly missing out on promotion last time out.

Rovers captured former Kilwinning ace Scott Houston this week, one of five new signings so far and with former Craigmark and Annbank boss Hugh Flynn brought in as assistant to boss Derek Frye, the club has been busy shaping up the squad for the long campaign ahead.

Rae, who has also been overseeing the superb development work at Winton Park, says Derek and the team are confident they can go one further this time around after their last game heartache last term.

He said "We've been really happy with the pre-season friendlies. We've had some good results, but the main priority was to get the players fit and to see how the new signings gelled with the other lads."

"Our objectives remain the same, to gain promotion and to bring a higher quality of football to Winton Park."

Other new arrivals at Winton Park so far are ex Saltcoats midfielder Niall Kennedy, Craigmark's Robert Nolan and striker Findlay Frye from amateur football. There could well be at least one more arrival as the Ardagh Glass campaign progresses before league business resumes on August 28.

Rae continued "We have the nucleus of the squad from last season, which came so close to winning promotion. Hopefully, now we have the final piece of the jigsaw. We may well look at one more player, if the right one becomes available."

Meanwhile, the hospitality facilities at the ground are now completed, with work to start immediately on the new gym and sports rehabilitation clinic.

Coaches Derek Cook and Jim Allan have left the club, who wish them both the best of luck for the future.
