Frye Thanks Winton Fans for Support

OVERJOYED Ardrossan Winton Rovers boss Derek Frye paid tribute to the fans for their backing this week.

His message came as his team stormed into the Third Round of the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup with a well deserved 2-0 win away to northern Super League outfit Longside.

Frye, whose team top the Stagecoach Ayrshire District League was delighted with their performance in the national competition and is now targeting a home tie when the draw is made in the Evening Times offices next Tuesday, November 9.

The boss tols Sportscene "I suppose it's unchartered waters for us to be in the Third Round of the Scottish Cup and I am delighted for the players, we really deserved the win and played well. Staying overnight was a great idea, we enjoyed spening time together and everyone was fresh in the morning. They play in the same league as Sunnybank, who beat Albion Rovers in the second round of the Scottish Cup (and visit Frye's former team Ayr United for a Third Round tie on November 20)."

"As I said before the league is the top priority for us although it's a bonus to do well in the cup and we would like a home tie against a minnow like ourselves or a big name. We are getting really good crowds because people know we play good football and I am grateful to everyone for the backing."

Winton have no scheduled game this weekend although Frye hopes to fix up a friendly for Saturday.

They return to serious action with a Stagecoach Ayrshire District League game against Three Towns rivals Saltcoats Victoria at Ardeer Stadium next Saturday, November 13.
