Ardrossan Winton Rovers
Back to Lead
An agonising back injury kept Ardrossan Winton Rovers boss Derek Frye hospitalised for more than a week overseaes, forcing him to hand over the reins of the team.
But the Winton gaffer hopes to be back in the dug out for the Stagecoach Ayrshire District League game at home to Darvel a week on Saturday.
Frye was watching an English player in action in Malta in late July when he suffered a back injury and was whipped into a local hospital for eight days, returning home two weeks behind schedule in early August and missing the start of the new season.
He said "When I bent down a muscle seized up and I discovered I had a trapped Sciatic nerve in my back. I was supposed to be there for a week watching a player from London who was on trial for a side over there, but ended up staying for three weeks. I had to go to hospital for eight days for treatment before I was able to return home. It was really painful and I don't wish it on anyone."
"I had to take pain killers but have drastically cut down on them and am on the mend. I have had to be content to watch the last few games and left Derek Cook, Jim Allan and Craig Hamlton in charge."
